Zoo Team Patterns

The six most common Zoo team compositions and the predictable friction patterns each produces.

Individual archetype knowledge is the foundation. Team archetype knowledge is where it compounds.

Most team friction isn't personalities clashing — it's archetype needs structurally in conflict. The Team Dynamics Report surfaces these conflicts.

§ 01

Three diagnostic questions

What is this team's natural center of gravity? Where are most people clustered on the Natural graph?

How far has the team shifted in adaptation? Compare Natural and Adapted distributions. Large shifts in the same direction = the environment is making a consistent demand.

Who is bearing the cost? The people whose Natural style is furthest from the Adapted distribution are spending the most energy. They're often the ones going quietly offline.

§ 02

Common tension pairings

Lion + Dolphin — the most structurally opposite pairing. Needs explicit agreements about pace and decision-making.

Elephant + Lemur — opposite on pace and priority. When working, they produce the best outcomes; when not, the most sustained frustration.

Dolphin-heavy teams adapting upward — the collective cost accumulates quietly across the whole team.

Lemur-sparse teams performing Lemur behaviors — sustained unnatural adaptation. Investigate.

§ 03

What high-functioning Zoo teams share

  1. 1A shared archetype language used in real time.
  2. 2Negotiated communication agreements designed for their archetype mix.
  3. 3A Zookeeper in the room who watches the dynamics and names them with curiosity.

Balance isn't the goal. Awareness is.
